Completion technologies: results of the dialogue between TSS Group’s experts and leading representatives of Russian vertically integrated oil companies (VIOC) at TNF

A discussion session with between the representatives of the leading VIOCs and experts from the TSS Group was held at the Tyumen Industrial and Energy Forum. The session became a platform for direct dialogue and discussion of key problems encountered in the lower completions. The discussion focused on the application of technologies for the “old” well stock and production enhancement.

Mikhail Volodin, CEO of TSS Group, pointed out: “It was critical for us to meet with industry leaders to discuss a long-term strategy of technological development. To solve the current operational problems of our customers, we should form working groups. The available technical potential of the TSS Group, including its own engineering pool and R&D center, enables us to improve the applied technologies, while proposing comprehensive and cost-effective solutions to these problems."

Alexander Sadovnikov, TSS Engineering Director, presented details of the Slim Frac technology: "This is an already proven technology without expensive sidetracking, which has a payback period of 1-2 years. It can perform up to 9 stages of multistage hydraulic fracturing, and can be employed with arrangements from any manufacturer. This technology is the foundation of multi-stage hydraulic re-fracturing, which can be integrated with other solutions, such as multi-lateral completion, sidetracking, and flow control. But its implementation requires close cooperation with the Customer’s geological service.”

The Gazpromneft’s representative noted: “As to our company, the technologies are important for us that can increase oil recovery from the ‘old’ well stock without considerable capital expenditures.”

Sergey Tyutikov, Innovation Director, said: “The rate of solution implementation is critical today. Our intelligent completion systems for remote monitoring have been tested successfully and are ready for scaling. Digitizing field data using in-house software and the application of multi-position couplings and sensors makes it possible to level the wellbore horizon and increase the production life. We are actively introducing AI and need the support of our Customers in testing it on digital fields. These technologies can be implemented in both the “old” well stock and offshore projects.”

The session confirmed the demand for the format of a direct technical dialogue between equipment manufacturers and VIOC’s experts in discussing practical issues. Based on the session results, the parties agreed to focus on selecting priorities for the formation of working groups and the replication of the presented technologies.
