Shut-off valve

Purpose

The valve is used as a potential barrier to establish control over the well in case of emergency: e.g. damage to the well X-mas tree as a result of external impact. When the pressure in the control line drops, the valve automatically closes preventing the flow of borehole fluid above the installation interval. The valve is run on the string along with a control line for remote control of the valve, which is led out through a port in the X-mas tree.
